Nightguard

If you grind your teeth at night, a special mouth guard-type of dental appliance — called a nocturnal bite plate or bite splint — may be created to prevent tooth damage. See the Results of Teeth Grinding and Other Causes of Enamel Damage.

What is a dental mouthguard?

A mouthguard is a protective device for the mouth that covers the teeth and gums to prevent and reduce injury to the teeth, arches, lips, and gums. A mouthguard is most often used to prevent injury in contact sports, as a treatment for bruxism or TMD, or as part of certain dental procedures, such as tooth bleaching.

What is a mouthguard made of?

The mouthguards were made of the following materials: poly (vinyl acetate-ethylene) copolymer clear thermoplastic, polyurethane, and laminated thermoplastic. Eleven measurements were taken for each mouthguard to demonstrate dimensional changes that occurred with wear.
